Canada Work Permit
Canada work permit
allows an individual to move to Canada to work for a specific position in a
particular company for a temporary period. This temporary Canadian work visa is
not meant to act as a route for settling in the country as a permanent
resident. Canadian employers are benefited from issuance of this type of work
visa by the Canadian government. If employers do not get eligible candidates to
fill up certain positions with Canadian citizens or permanent residents of the
country, they can hire employees/workers from outside Canada. Selected
candidates from outside Canada can apply for this type of work permit through
Citizenship and Immigration Canada to migrate to Canada and work for a specific
employer.
Benefits
Unlike Skilled Worker
Visa or other business visas issued by Canadian government, the temporary work
permit does not require any assessment based on point system. For a worker who
is already in Canada with a work permit, applying for permanent residency
becomes easier and faster for him/her.
Working permit for
Canada allows an applicant to work in the country. However, the applicant needs
a specific job offer from a sponsoring employer in Canada. This type of
temporary work visa is not transferable. While staying in the country, an
applicant is allowed to apply for any other Canadian visa related to immigration.
However, to apply for other immigrant or work visa, the existing Canada work
permit should remain valid during the time of application.
Eligibility
Written Job Offer from
an Employer: If an applicant for Canada work permit already has a written job offer
from an employer then it would be much easier for him/her to secure the permit.
A Canadian employer
sponsoring a candidate from outside the country is in a way responsible to
check whether the candidate possesses all the required documents and permits to
work with them. It is only after an employer gets an affirmation that the job
can be offered to a foreign national, they send a confirmation letter to the
candidate issued by Labour Market Opinion. Foreign nationals willing to work in
Quebec with Canada work permit will also require an authorization approved by
the Quebec Immigration Authorities. A candidate then can apply for work permit
from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) with a proper application along
with mandatory documents and the detail job offer.
HRSDC
Once a job offer is
made from a Canadian employer to a candidate outside the country, the Human
Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) will assess the case.
Nevertheless, this does not ensure that an applicant will get Canada work
permit. The candidate is required to submit different proofs and documents to
get consent to move to Canada with a work permit.
Dependants
Work permit visa for
Canada also makes provision for an applicant’s spouse to live in Canada for a
brief period. A Canada work permit holder is allowed to bring his/her
wife/husband, common-law partner or children who are dependent on him/her. If
the applicant’s partner or spouse wishes to work in Canada, then he/she has to
individually apply for respective working visa. In certain cases, foreign
nationals may also require a Temporary Resident Visa to accompany a person
already holding a work permit in Canada.
Exemptions
from Applying Canada Work Permit
There are certain
exceptions where a person does not require a work permit to move to Canada for
a temporary basis. Foreign government officers, performing artists, emergency
service providers, news reporters, civil aviation inspectors and crew members,
investigators, clergy, judges, referees, public speakers, coaches, athletes,
military personals and some other members from special professions are exempted
from applying a work permit while travelling or staying in the country in
special cases.
